Automotive Photography

Cars and cameras are the two things I let myself be materialistic about. I don’t care about other stuff.

Spring has sprung, it’s time to remove the tarp, get the polish ready and spring clean the hot rod. Why? It’s the start of car show season, and automotive photography. The World of Wheels will soon be arriving in Winnipeg MB. I would get tickets from my good buddies Marve over at Canadian Super Shop. But alas, I relocated to Vancouver Island from Winnipeg, and that ended my opportunity to photography the World of Wheels. Shooting for Canadian Super Shop was always a fantastic opportunity for me to get close to the cars, and because the contestants, and participants were allowed entrance to the show an hour before opening it was a perfect time to run around and take pictures.
It took a couple of years for me to figure out the formula to capturing great images but I eventually solved the mystery. First it’s all halogen lights in the convention center, so correcting the white balance was the first thing on my list. After setting a custom white balance, I dialed in the camera to ISO 100, F/2.8, and was always on a tripod. I left the flash at home, again, the floor has halogen lights – Flash, halogen lights two different colors. The best thing about getting into the show early, I virtually have the place to myself. I was free to roam the show floor without crowds, no distractions and no one to trip over my tripod.
The love of cars has been in my blood for almost 50 years, every since I was a little kid playing with Matchbox and Corgi

World of Wheels Hot rod show

cars toys. The Worlds of Wheels brings back those great memories. Did you know It’s been around for more than 50 years and is one of the leaders of indoor custom cars shows. With hot rods always being at the center of the show but wait. It’s not just hot rods you will find concept cars, specialty cars, and manufacturers displays, in 2010 the show attracted almost a million people.
Let’s get together, break out the polish, wash and wax the hot rods and head downtown for the greatest show of cars. Plus let’s not forget to bring the camera and take some great shot of¬†automotive photography.
